How to Design Your Own Custom Boxing Gloves
Start by choosing the glove model and base colors, then add contrasting text or a high-resolution logo. Review every customization zone in the 3D preview before ordering.

Key takeaways
- Choose the model and weight first - they decide which zones exist.
- Fewer colours read better than many; two plus an accent is usually enough.
- Upload the highest-resolution artwork you have; a PNG with a transparent background gives the cleanest edge.
- Check contrast between text and the panel behind it, not against the background.
- Rotate the full 3D model and check every zone before adding to cart.
1. Choose the glove model
The model decides everything that follows: which panels can be coloured separately, where artwork can be printed, and which weights are available. Pick it before you think about colours.
| Model | Colour zones | Printable areas | Closure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Custom boxing gloves | 8 - inner and outer palm, inner and outer thumb, fingers, wrist, strap, outline | Outer palm, outer thumb, wrist | Hook-and-loop |
| Custom boxing gloves, laced | 8 - as above, with the laces in place of the strap | Outer palm, outer thumb, wrist | Lace-up |
| Custom MMA gloves | 11 - back of hand, inner palm, fingers, thumb, knuckle cap, wrist, and four strap parts | Back of hand, knuckle cap, strap | Hook-and-loop strap |
A hook-and-loop closure can be fastened alone, which suits training. A lace-up closure wraps the wrist more evenly and is the traditional competition closure in boxing, but it needs a second person to tie.

Read the boxing glove weight guide Choose the weight at the same time as the model - it cannot be changed once production starts.
2. Select a clear colour system
Having eight or eleven separately colourable zones does not mean using eight or eleven colours. Designs that read clearly from a distance almost always use two colours plus one accent.
A structure that works reliably:
- Pick one base colour for the large panels - the outer palm and fingers.
- Pick one secondary colour for the wrist and thumb.
- Pick one accent for the small parts: outline, strap or laces.
- Stop there, and only add a fourth colour if it does a specific job.
The small parts matter more than people expect. Outlines, laces and strap edges are what give a design definition - a dark glove with a contrasting outline looks designed, while the same glove with a matching outline looks blank.
Each zone can also carry a finish: normal, matte or metallic. Mixing finishes on the same colour is a way to add depth without adding another colour.
3. Choose available materials
Material affects how the glove feels, how it wears and how a printed design sits on it. The options available for a given product, and any price difference, are shown in the customizer under Size & Material before you add to cart.
Where a material choice is offered, use the description shown in the customizer for that specific product rather than assuming it matches another model. Material availability is set per product.
KCG Boxing has not published construction details such as padding composition or lining material, so this guide does not compare them. If a specific material property matters to your decision, ask the team before ordering.
4. Prepare the logo
Artwork quality is the single factor most within your control, and the one that most often disappoints. The customizer accepts PNG and JPG files up to 5 MB.
- Use a PNG with a transparent background so the artwork sits on the panel colour rather than inside a visible rectangle.
- Upload the highest resolution you have. Low-resolution artwork prints exactly as soft as it looks on screen.
- Crop tight to the artwork, with no large empty margin, so scaling behaves predictably.
- Simplify fine detail. Thin lines and small lettering lose definition at glove scale.
- Check the artwork against the panel colour you chose, not against white.
Files larger than 2048 px on the longest side are resized during upload, and files over 1 MB are compressed. Supplying artwork that is already close to those limits gives the most predictable result.
If you only have a logo as a low-resolution image taken from a website or a social profile, it is worth getting the original file before ordering. It is the one thing that cannot be improved after production starts.
5. Position text and names
Text can be placed on the printable areas, and each text item has its own font, colour, size, position and rotation. On boxing gloves those areas are the outer palm, the outer thumb and the wrist.
- Put the most important text on the outer palm - the surface facing forward when your hands are up.
- Keep names short. A long name shrinks to fit and becomes unreadable at a distance.
- Use the wrist for secondary text such as a gym name, a year or a record.
- Check the rotation on the thumb and wrist, where text sits at an angle by design.
- Read the spelling back to yourself before ordering. A typo cannot be corrected once production starts.
Text and colour are included in the product price. Uploaded images, symbols and matte or metallic finishes are add-ons, and the running total updates live in the customizer as you add them.
6. Check contrast and readability
A design is only as good as it looks in the room where it is used - under gym lighting, at a distance, in motion. Contrast is what decides that.
| Combination | Result |
|---|---|
| Light text on a dark panel | Highest readability at distance |
| Dark text on a light panel | Also strong; slightly softer under bright light |
| Mid-tone text on a mid-tone panel | Poor - the text disappears from a few metres away |
| Metallic text on a metallic panel | Unpredictable, because both react to light the same way |
- Judge text against the panel it sits on, not against the customizer background.
- Avoid placing artwork across the boundary between two colours where possible.
- Zoom out to check whether the design still reads at a small size.
- Do not rely on colour alone to carry meaning - a shape or outline holds up better in motion.
7. Review the full 3D model
Rotate the model completely before adding anything to the cart. Most design errors are only visible from an angle people forget to check.
- Rotate the glove a full turn and inspect every panel you coloured.
- Check the inner palm and inner thumb, which are easy to leave at the default colour by accident.
- Confirm each piece of text is on the intended zone and not overlapping a seam.
- Confirm images sit inside the printable area rather than running off its edge.
- Check the strap or laces, since these are separate zones and are commonly overlooked.
- Confirm the weight or size selection one last time.
The 3D preview is a representation of your design, not a photograph of the finished product. Colours vary between screens, and material finish, stitching and texture will not appear exactly as rendered. Use it to check layout, placement and spelling.
8. Common customization mistakes
| Mistake | Consequence | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Low-resolution logo | Soft, blurred print | Get the original file before ordering |
| Too many colours | Design reads as noise at a distance | Two colours plus one accent |
| Text with no contrast | Name invisible from a few metres | Light on dark, or dark on light |
| Logo with a white background | Visible rectangle around the artwork | Use a transparent PNG |
| Matching outline and base | Design looks blank | Contrast the small parts |
| Not checking spelling | Permanent typo | Read it back before confirming |
| Wrong weight or size | Unusable gloves, and no exchange on custom items | Confirm before ordering, change within 24 hours |
Custom items are made to your design after the order is placed, so they cannot be returned or exchanged because of a design or size choice. Changes are possible within 24 hours of ordering; after that, production has started.

Frequently asked questions
How should I prepare my logo?
Upload a PNG with a transparent background, cropped tight to the artwork, at the highest resolution you have. The customizer accepts PNG and JPG files up to 5 MB.
Files larger than 2048 px on the longest side are resized during upload and files over 1 MB are compressed, so artwork close to those limits gives the most predictable result. Avoid very thin lines and small lettering, which lose definition at glove scale.
Does the 3D preview show the final product exactly?
No. The preview is an accurate representation of your design - placement, colours you selected, text and artwork - but it is not a photograph of the finished item. Screen colours vary between devices, and material texture, finish and stitching will not render exactly as they appear in production.
Use the preview to verify layout, zone assignment and spelling. If exact colour matching matters for a team or sponsor, contact the team before ordering.
How many colours should I use?
Two, plus one accent, in most cases. Boxing gloves have eight separately colourable zones and MMA gloves eleven, but using all of them rarely produces a design that reads well at a distance.
Spend the accent colour on the small parts - outline, strap or laces. That is where a design gains definition.
Can I change my design after ordering?
Within 24 hours of placing the order, yes. After that, production has started and the design is locked, because each item is made to your specification rather than taken from stock.
Contact the team with your order number as early as possible. The sooner you write, the more can still be changed.
Can I design gear for a whole gym or team?
Yes. One shared design can be produced across a range of sizes and weights, which is how most club orders work.
Send the product, quantities and sizes to the team through the contact page and they will confirm pricing and timing.
